Compare Liver Cleansing Diets Used by Hollywood A-list

Hollywood Makes Liver Cleansing Diets Fashionable

Would you really own up to needing a liver cleansing diet, detox fast, juice diets, colon cleansing herbs, a colonic or cupping unless you knew that hundreds of Hollywood A-listers were doing the same everyday to maintain their game and keep their fame?

Probably not. Admiting to doing a body detox diet is akin to saying you haven’t cleaned your house for – what 10 years? We must be grateful to these celebrities who have gone out on a limb, admit to be less than god like and made liver detox diets not only all right but fashionable.

A-list beauty trends: Eastern treatments are popular with Gwyneth Paltrow, left

Whether it’s weird names for babies or extreme attitudes to diet, Hollywood has a reputation for launching strange and unlikely wellbeing trends. From Gwyneth Paltrow’s cupping to Owen Wilson’s shamanic cure for depression, it seems there is nothing the A-list won’t try. Below is a list of what’s hot in Hollywood right now – from cookies to kundalini – and where you can find it in the UK. Crystal energy healing

Crystals are placed on you, generally on the chakra (energy centre) areas or moved over the body. In LA, crystal healer Melanie Braude uses paper thin crystals in her non-invasive “crystal face lift” which is wildly popular with Hollywood A-listers who also hop over to London for a little crystal light bed therapy at the Hale Clinic.

Celebrity fans: Richard Gere, Sharon Stone, Jennifer Lopez, Uma Thurman.

Kundalini yoga Kundalini yoga claims to activate the “serpent energy” coiled at the base of the spine and bring it up through the chakras (energy centres) of the body in order to “expand consciousness and awaken divine energy”. The usual postures and breathing techniques (pranayama) are joined by visualisation, chanting, meditation and mudras (hand postures).

Celebrity fans: Cindy Crawford, Forest Whitaker, Iona Skye, Courtney Love and Rosanna Arquette.

Mindfulness

Oprah recently announced that she was no longer going to diet but would rather employ “mindfulness eating”, in which you become aware of yourself while eating, mindful of every mouthful. Not just for dieting; it’s great for stress release too. Mindfulness is meditation made easy – no wonder Hollywood loves it.

Celebrity fans: Meg Ryan, Goldie Hawn and Oprah Winfrey.

Master Cleanse detox (lemon diet) Created by naturopath Stanley Burroughs, this has been around for years but has now turned stellar. You drink a mix of lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper – that’s it. Originally intended as a cleansing juice fast for health, but LA loves the inevitable pound dropping.

Celebrity fans: Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Beyoncé.

Ayurveda The 5,000-year-old system of Indian medicine is renowned for its detox treatment, panchakarma, and also for its divine “four-handed” massage treatments. Stars flock to the Chopra Center at the La Costa resort to discover their “prakruti” (body-mind type).

Celebrity fans: Jennifer Aniston, Cindy Crawford, Oprah Winfrey, Shilpa Shetty, Christy Turlington and Goldie Hawn.

iS Clinical Fire & Ice  iS Clinical is the “must have” brand of skincare, lauded by many top US dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons. Its Fire & Ice medical facial at Beverly Hill’s Four Seasons Spa is known as the “Red Carpet Treatment”. Its claims to rejuvenate the skin make it a favourite with Hollywood stars. ”It safely and rapidly resurfaces the skin,” says spa director Derek Hofmann.

Celebrity fans: Halle Berry, Gwyneth Paltrow and Evangelina Lily.

Beautcamp Pilates A bootcamp version of Pilates with a tough cardiovascular workout added to the usual stretching, toning and stomach-tightening. Supposedly the key to a host of perfect celebrity bodies.

Exercises are performed on the “reformer machine” (a Heath Robinsonesque padded bench with pulley system).

Celebrity fans: Nicole Kidman, Elizabeth Hurley, Kate Winslet, Jennifer Aniston and Ben Stiller.

Dr Siegal’s Cookie Diet The “cookie doctor” prescribes six of his special cookies a day plus you eat a “sensible” (if meagre) dinner. If you’re tempted simply to make your own, apparently the key lies in the special “secret formula” of amino acids that stops you feeling hungry.

Celebrity fans: Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Mandy Moore and Guy Ritchie
